Scarborough Jazz's December treats

Mike Gordon writes - some lovely gigs coming up at the Cask!

Blind Monk Trio
Featuring tenor sax player Bob Whittaker, bassist Hugo Harrison and drummer Johnny Hunter, this innovative three piece draw influences from Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson blended with alternative rock and eastern folk music. Blind Monk Trio play original compositions along with some surprising arrangements of classic standards. Difficult to categorise, they are probably best summed up by Barney Stevenson (Marsden Jazz Festival) “Energetic, original and quirky - think John Coltrane meets Led
Zeppelin”. The Blind Monk Trio is on Jazz North’s Northern Line Artist Roster. £6 (£5 in advance)

Jazz Aesthetic & Friends
Peter Elsdon returns to the club with his highly talented students. A new student intake ensures a new evolutionary stage for this exciting nine piece outfit. £5

Christmas Jazz Party
As ever we invite players to join us for our Festive celebration, which is always a fun-filled night. As well as your instruments, feel free to bring food contributions for the buffet. Backing will be provided by The Mike Gordon Trio and we ask you to ring Mike on 01723 379818 if you wish to perform. £4
