Henry Grimes playes the Tusk Festival in Newcastle

This year is the great bassist Henry Grimes's 80th year on the planet, and he will be touring in western Europe in September and October, playing upright bass and violin and speaking some of his poetry, with his Magic Science Quartet, comprising the great alto saxophonist, flutist, EVI and Casio VL-Tone player Marshall Allen, long-time leader of the Sun Ra Arkestra; the Swiss pianist and shaman drummer intriguingly known as Ka; and Avreeayl Ra, drummer / bamboo flutist / percussionist from the AACM / Chicago.

The "Magic Science Quartet" is a group of extraordinary musical and spiritual powers, steeped in history, mystery, and artistry, casting magic science spells to uplift humanity above  these troubled times.  You can read biographies of the four musicians, see their photos, listen to their music recorded at the AngelicA Festival, and find links to the musicians' web sites here

The Magic Science Quartet will play in the fifth free and improvised TUSK Festival in Newcastle on the 9th and 10th October 2015. TUSK will take in and around the venue Gateshead Old Town Hall, West St, Gateshead, NE8 1HE.
