Dazzling line up in Leeds this October!

Our October Jazz gigs are looking good! We have special focus this autumn on women jazz leaders. First up on this is a young trombonist making waves on the UK jazz scene...

Rosie Turton’s five-piece band weaves Indian raga rhythms into head-nodding hip-hop and jazz rhythms  Hder quintet have released an album with Jazz Re:Freshed that showcases her individual and unique voice as a performer, composer and producer

Alison Rayner's "ARQ"

Part of this autumn’s Women in Jazz series, bassist Alison Rayner’s band ARQ play ‘songs without words’ and are known for their vibrant, communicative performances. Their combination of richly nuanced compositions with folk-infused grooves, skilful musicianship and a love of improvisation, creates a compelling and coherent whole.

Teena Lyle: Rush Hour Jazz Wed 16 Oct 6pm @Seven Arts
 Really pleased to welcome vibes player Teena Lyle to play in the initimate surroundings of Seven Arts. Teena is quite something – shew recently embarked on her third tour with blues, jazz, and soul veteran Van Morrison, (this time on an East Coast US tour) wTeena Lyle with the Jazz Leeds trio

Colin Byrne’s Leeds Jazz Orchestra @Bar on Park Lane, Roundhay Oct 18th 8pm
Leeds Jazz Orchestra is dedicated to the rehearsal and performance of Big Band Jazz under Musical Director, Colin Byrne. They delight in an eclectic mix of repertoire from Bebop, Blues and Ballads through to cutting-edge modern Jazz Orchestra numbers.

Kathrine Windfeld Sextet @Seven Arts Sun Oct 20th 1.30pm
Part of this autumn’s women in jazz series, Danish pianist Kathrine Windfeld has quickly established herself on the European jazz scene with her outstanding skills as composer and arranger.

Maria Chiara Argirò group featuring Leila Martial

Part of this autumn’s women in jazz series, Italian-born pianist and composer Maria Chiara Argirò blends classical music and folk traditions with her own approach to contemporary jazz.
Maria Chiara Argirò is an Italian pianist, keyboard player and composer. Her unique sound and departure from the traditional jazz idiom is beautifully reflected in her recent album The Fall Dance – a project featuring this fantastic line up of musicians creating vibrant collaborative music. ‘Two for the road” Cathy Ibberson with Jack Glover @Inkwell 1.30pm Sun 27 Oct
 Cathy Ibberson is a talented Leeds sax player and singer with the “Soul Surgeons” and “Mojo 78 Big Band”. She’ll be entertaining us with her group featuring the multi-talented Jack Glover on piano.
