New Jazz Sessions 2017 @ The Grove Inn Leeds

The monthly gigs in October, November and December at Leeds Grove Inn  have started to show some of the fresh jazz talent on the Leeds music scene. The bands playing in the new year promise to build on that reputation.

Sunday 22nd Jan – King and I
Adding new ideas and arrangements to the benefits of an established band , King and I come to reconnect with the Grove, “one of our favourite small jazz venues”, where they played at the old Grove Jazz Club. And they play jazz you will know . But with vocals and lead trombone , they bring a distinctly different style to the party.

Jeff is a jazz guitarist and composer from Toronto, Canada who now lives in Leeds. The band plays his original material as well as their arrangements of jazz standards, matching exciting group interplay with modern jazz styles and grooves.

Sunday 19th March – Phil Green’s Quiet Jazz Project
This promises to be an intriguing evening of music. Phil Green offers the following taster: “In an increasingly noisy world, the Quiet Jazz Project offers a respite, a brief period of calm. We have been exploring ways of physically playing our instruments very quietly, and ways of playing and interacting as a group, to produce an overall effect of quietness. And yes we really do have 2 electric guitars, a trumpet and drums ! Come and see what it ‘s all about. You may be surprised.....” The band play their own compositions, jazz standards , and free improvisation.
